Sibel Köse’s new album In Good Company is a selection of jazz standards with modern arrangements and generous improvisations, carrying the energy of a live concert. Throughout the album, there is a powerful variety, ranging from rapid intros where brass instruments shine with contemporary touches, to renowned melodies reborn with elegant oscillation, and to dialogues between voice and bass alone. The diverse aesthetics and genres of various periods that wander through the pieces are bound together by a consistent sense of unity, guided by the shared approach of the seven musicians. Köse’s clear and serene interpretation guides the audience through these pieces, which explore diverse tones of love while freely navigating spaces led by the instrumentalists. In Good Company brings together the exuberant feeling of interplay, the openness of improvisation, and the multifaceted nature of love and togetherness in every sense, quickly drawing the listener toward a sense of unity created around a jazz scene.
