Sibel Köse, raised in Ankara and mainly self-taught, has emerged as Turkey’s top female jazz vocalist and jazz educator. While still a student of Architecture at METU University, she began performing professionally. She built her experience and knowledge singing alongside major Jazz masters and further developed her craft participating in International Jazz Workshops, festivals and competitions and was awarded the first prize in the International Competition of Jazz Vocalists’ in Zamosc (Poland) in 1992.
Since 1987, Sibel Köse participates in several groups and projects as the lead voice, she takes part in radio and TV programs, she is featured by groups and organisations from trios to big bands within Turkey as well as abroad, and she is a regular participant in the major festivals within Turkey and Internationally.
So far she has performed at several venues in Poland, Kosovo, France, Holland, Greece, Czech Republic, Germany, Estonia, Spain, Kuwait, Bahrein, Dubai, Russia, Senegal, Morocco and South Africa and she has also shared the stage with Dee Dee Bridgewater, Raul Midon and Stacey Kent at “Nina Simone Tribute Concert” at 2008.
Köse is contributing to the growth and proliferation of Jazz music and education in Turkey by sharing her gift, knowledge and experience through the jazz workshops ongoing in İstanbul that she had started in 1999, in Ankara. She has been teaching at Bahçeşehir University Jazz Certificate and Masters Program since the beginning of the program and she has been teaching at Pulawy Jazz Summer School in Poland for more than a decade.
